The Coastguard has slammed thrill-seekers who decided to sail a fridge in the River Dee.
They had received a report at 7.30pm last night that someone was in the water near Connah’s Quay floating in the item normally to be found in a kitchen.
According to the Flint Coastguard Rescue Team, the unusual vessel had been adapted to be a “Hawaiian-type craft.
But they said the stunt was dangerous and could have led to tragedy.
The spokesman at Holyhead said: “The three guys ran away. All that was left was the fridge.
“It wasn’t just a fridge. The outrigger they placed was just like a Hawaiian-type craft with a float attached to stop it capsizing.”He warned, however, that the three men could easily have drowned if it had sunk.
“There was no sign of the men afterwards because they’d “scarpered”.
