Police appeal after man armed with knife threatens Prenton family before stealing car

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary in Prenton shortly after midnight on Friday, 18 August.

A report was received that a man forced entry to the house on Wharfedale Avenue carrying a knife.

He then threatened the woman and children in the property before stealing car keys and a Range Rover Evoque.

It is believed the offender may have been dropped off in a silver car which was seen nearby at the time of the incident.

The occupants of the house were unhurt but left extremely shaken by the incident.

An investigation is currently underway and house-to-house and forensic enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: “This was obviously a very traumatic experience for the family and they were left very shaken by their ordeal.

“I want to reassure members of the public that a thorough investigation is underway and we are committed to finding the person responsible for this and bringing them to justice.

“I would appeal for anyone who may have seen the Range Rover parked and looking out of place, or was in the area of Wharfedale Avenue on the evening of 17 August and early hours of 18 August to cast their minds back and think if they may have seen anyone acting suspiciously. We would ask anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2246 or the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
