Merseyside Police car flipped on its roof by gang

A Police car was flipped over on to its roof by a group of yobs in Kirkby this evening.

The vehicle had been driven into the Tower Hill area of the town by officers who had spotted a scrambler bike being driven in an anti-social manner.

Police said the car was parked in Shevington’s Lane while the two officers went to investigate and while they were away a gang – possibly as many as 30 youths according to witnesses – turned it on to its roof.

The yobs ran off towards the Moorfield estate followed by the police officers.

A 19-year-old man was later arrested.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “At about 7.15pm, officers parked and left the car on Shevington’s Lane after they sighted an off-road bike being ridden in an anti-social manner nearby.

“While the two officers were away from the vehicle, a group of males turned it onto its roof.

“A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to a police vehicle and taken into custody for questioning.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
