The body of a 54-year-old man believed to be from St Helens has been found in a lake in Delamere Forest.

Police officers recovered the man’s body in Hatchmere Lake in the popular Cheshire beauty spot at around 2pm on Sunday.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Cheshire Police had been called to concern over the safety of a driver seen near the lake at 12.40am.

The force warned yesterday that an “ongoing incident” would restrict public access to certain areas throughout the day.

The force said in a tweet that they were “concentrating search efforts” in the area “following reports of concern for a motorist seen in the vicinity last night”.
