A man pulled from the River Mersey earlier today has sadly died.
Emergency services were called to the Pier Head at around half twelve this afternoon after reports of a man in the water.
Merseyside Police said a man in his 50s was found in the river but was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Police have said his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service confirmed it was called to the scene at 12.20pm and initially reported that the man had been taken to the Royal Liverpool hospital.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “Following a body found at the Pier Head, a man in his 50’s has been pronounced deceased at the scene.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious.”
The air ambulance left the scene at just after 1pm and the area was re-opened by police shortly afterwards.
