Man dies in M53 crash on Moreton Spur sliproad


A man has died after his car reportedly hit a barrier on the eastbound carriageway of the M53 Moreton Spur slip road this morning.

Shortly before 4am, the emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a silver Honda Jazz and a barrier on the eastbound carriageway of the Moreton Spur slip road, as it approaches the southbound carriageway of the M53.

Emergency services attended and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Specialist family liaison officers will be supporting the next of kin of the man.

The M53 motorway was closed in both directions between junctions 1 and 3.

The M53 has now re-opened at junction 2a northbound to allow access to junction 1, but remains closed between junctions 3 and 2 northbound. Southbound lanes remain closed between junctions 1 and 3. Moreton Spur is closed in both directions while officers carry out their investigation. Drivers are advised to see alternative routes.

Merseyside Police is now appealing for witnesses.
