A body found in New Brighton today (January 22) is believed to be missing 20-year-old Luke Murphy.
Mr Murphy was last seen at around 10.30pm on Tuesday leaving an address on Deveraux Drive, Wallasey .
Merseyside Police today confirmed that officers investigating his disappearance had found the body of a man at Fort Perch Rock.
At this time the death is being treated as unexplained and a post mortem examination will take place to establish the cause.
The body is yet to be formally identified but police said the family of Mr Murphy have been informed.
Police had appealed on Wednesday for help in finding Mr Murphy. They said that although he had gone missing from home before it had never been for very long.
Mr Murphy was known to frequent the area around Liverpool John Moores University in Liverpool city centre and Wallasey.
This afternoon the alarm was raised after a body was discovered at Fort Perch Rock.
Witnesses reported seeing three ambulances at the scene along with a number of police vehicles.

The alarm was raised at around 3.30pm by the ambulance service, and enquiries are ongoing to confirm the identity of the man.
A spokesperson said police are working to identify the man and contact family before releasing any further details.
The North West Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
Fort Perch Rock is home to maritime and aviation museum displays and exhibitions.
It also hosts the Fort Perch Rocks festival at Marine Promenade.
